Toowoomba is Australia's second largest inland city. It has a population of 90,000. It is conveniently situated, being only 90 minutes west of Brisbane. It is also close to other tourist centres, two hours from the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast beaches.
Toowoomba is situated on the crest of the Great Dividing Range, about 700 m above sea level. Unlike the coastal regions of south-east Queensland, Toowoomba has four distinct seasons. Summer temperatures averaging 27C and winter temperatures averaging 17C. The mild climate, combined with the region's rich volcanic soil, means the city's reputation as "the Garden City" is well deserved. The area has more than 150 public parks, and beautiful flowering trees The Australian Carnival of Flowers is held every year in September.
